Who Run the Water? Girls.
Rollins School of Public Health
This is the only functional hand pump in Ngolala Old Town which consists of 80 households. These women know that it could be a long time if the pump breaks before it is fixed, so they have taken it upon themselves to monitor the pump so that it remains functioning and is not mistreated. The women set hours during the day when people can use the pump, and they only allow two buckets per person. This water is used for drinking and cooking, while the stream or swamp is used for bathing and washing clothes.
