An Adolescent Mother with Her Baby, in Their Home
Laney Graduate School
This young woman was diagnosed with acute malnutrition by measurement of mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), the preferred method for diagnosis of acute malnutrition at the community level. The treatment for this form of malnutrition for women of her age is fortified blended flour, which she receives on a monthly basis for free at her local health clinic. The government collaborates with international organizations to ensure these flours are readily available, especially during the lean season when malnutrition is prone to increase.
