The First Rains
Laney Graduate School
Rainy season in Northern Senegal lasts roughly from June to October. The first rains have been increasingly slow to come, with this photo being taken in mid-July. Prolonged drought has been a result of climate change, which directly affects agricultural communities that rely on rainfall for their crop production. Moreover, climate change is impacting fishing communities that are affected by rising sea-levels, warming oceans, and saltwater intrusion. Climate change ultimately will and has impacted food security and economic productivity in the region.
