The purpose of the Emory Global Health Institute’s photography contest is to encourage students conducting global health projects abroad to examine the culture and people with whom they are working in order to foster cultural sensitivity. The contest also promotes awareness of global health issues on the Emory campus through the power of photography, and it celebrates Emory students’ success in connecting their interest in global health with the visual arts.
Mr. Robert Yellowlees, a successful Atlanta businessman who has had a lifelong interest in photography, gave a generous gift to the Institute to establish and coordinate this contest. The contest will continue through 2009 and 2010, and the Institute encourages both undergraduate and graduate students from across the University to submit photographs they take while participating in global health field experiences in low- or middle-income countries.
